Bharat Connect (BC) is a roster-gated communications app for authorized units. This policy describes what the mobile app and command console collect and why. We do not sell personal data. We do not show ads. We do not use an advertising ID.
Data we process
- Enrollment: service number, full name, and a hash of identity last-4 digits (never full Aadhaar or other ID numbers).
- Device: a device identifier, platform, and coarse last-known location used only to confirm India geo-fence and show last-seen to unit admins.
- Messages: ciphertext and metadata (conversation id, timestamps). Message plaintext and conversation keys stay on device. The server cannot read chat contents.
- Attachments: files you send in chat, stored so recipients can download them. Prefer in-app viewing.
- Admin audit: command-console actions (approve, revoke, wipe) are logged for the unit.
Permissions (Android)
- Location (while in use): required to enforce the authorized-territory geo-fence. Not used for advertising. Not collected in the background.
- Bluetooth / Nearby: asked only when you start offline mesh, to discover approved peers.
- Microphone: asked only when you place or accept a voice call or record a voice note.
- Camera: asked only when you capture a photo for chat or profile. BC does not provide video calling.
- Photos / files: BC uses the system photo picker and Storage Access Framework. It does not request all-files or full-gallery access.
- Notifications: optional alerts for messages and unit broadcasts.
- Biometric: optional unlock; PIN always works. Biometric data never leaves the device.
Account deletion
In the app: Settings → Delete account. That removes your enrollment and personal data from the server and erases local keys. Unit admins can also delete a directory entry. Details: bcpro.in/delete-account.
